What is it with Walmart employees frequently getting caught being incredibly rude or, in some cases, very racist? Even if your job is to stock shelves, there’s really no reason to be a jerk, regardless of how poorly you’re paid. One Texas Walmart employee had to show off her own insensitive and subtle racism when a few Black customers asked for help. Rather than do her job, she chose to be a Karen.
“We got a Karen. Let me tell you, baby, you don’t even know who I am. I bet you don’t have a job next week,” TikToker Jmonaaay (TikTok/lilneyab) says to an older Walmart employee. The woman waves to Jmonaaay, smiling, then strikes a pose before assisting another customer. It looks out of left field, but Jmonaaay adds context in a follow-up video.
According to Jmonaaay, she and her partner went to Walmart for a PS5. They were in the area already for Jmonaaay’s daughter, so two birds with one stone, right? Upon reaching the electronics, Jmonaay’s partner asks for assistance, which turns out to be the Karen from her original clip. When he returns, he tells Jmonaaay that the woman was “rude” and only nodded.
They both figured the little nod was confirmation, and maybe that was how they did things in Collin County. She admits they aren’t familiar with the area, but they could still hear her stocking shelves, as if there were no pressing matters.
Jmonaaay then asks the Walmart employee herself, “Did you hear my man?” They explain, again, why they were there, and even ask if there’s anyone else who can help if she’s too busy.
“No it’s just me,” the Walmart employee says, but then leaves it at that. She doesn’t answer Jmonaaay about her request several times. Instead, the employee gets up—which makes Jmonaaay think she’s finally going to help—and helps another customer on the opposite side of the electronics.
“Do you feel like because we Black or African American or because it is Black History Month, you feel like you don’t wanna talk this month?” Jmonaaay wonders. “All you had to do was use your words.” That’s when Jmonaaay confronts the employee, and starts recording.
According to Jmonaaay, the employee told her the old man was there first. “Why couldn’t you just say that?” Jmonaaay asks. Literally zero communication skills, apparently. She didn’t even care that the old man came before her; she just wanted more than a nod.
Clearly, this Karen had to know what she was doing. The way she smiles and strikes a pose for the camera is pretty telling. And unfortunately for her, Walmart’s official TikTok account saw Jmonaaay’s video, telling her to “DM” them so they can “look into this.”
One commenter jokingly admitted, “I’m not stable enough for these situations.”
Another commenter argued they wouldn’t put the employee on blast. “I’m not playing with no one’s livelihood. That’s something you let God handle.” Well, God works in mysterious ways. Maybe this is how God is handling it.
No one’s asking you to be the most chipper Walmart employee on the planet. You’re there to do a job; I get that. But while you’re there, you should actually communicate with your customers. They can’t read your mind!
