This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

The Update 34: Abyss of Dagath tweaked and reworked the Companion system, including some of the Bond Mod mechanics. However, the fanbase all over the internet still has some burning questions about the clone-summoning Duplex Bond Mod. Depending on how it works now, it could break the game or keep being a simple “fun” bonus for your Pets. So, how can you get the Duplex Bond Mod in Warframe, and how does it actually work?

The Warframe Duplex Bond Mod can be purchased from Son’s Offerings in Necralisk on Deimos. It costs 20,000 Standing and comes as an Unranked Mod. You need to reach at least Rank 3 with Son to be able to purchase a Companion Mod, including Duplex Bond Mod. Master Teasonai in Cetus, Earth, and The Business in Fortuna, Venus, also sell other Mods.

According to the official Warframe in-game description, here’s how Duplex Bond Mod works.

Companion will clone itself each time you expend 100 Energy, up to 3 Clones. Clones live for 30s and their kills have a 50% chance of dropping Energy Orbs.

Duplex Bond Mod in-game description

As you can infer from it, that means:

  • You can summon a clone of your Companion every time you use 100 Energy or more.
  • A clone can only appear for 30 seconds or until it is destroyed.
  • A clone can drop Energy Orbs with every kill.
  • But you can only have up to three clones at a time.

The Warframe Duplex Bond Mod in-game explanation stated that a clone would appear after you use 100 Energy. However, you don’t have to use a skill that spent 100 Energy or more in a single cast. It also works cumulatively.

For example, AbThompson on Reddit tested the Warframe Duplex Bond Mod with Wisp. They used Helminth-subsumed Roar, which cost 116 Energy, and summoned one Companion clone. However, casting various skills that add up to 100 Energy only spawns one clone. Casting Reservoirs with Fused Reservoirs Mod that increases Energy drain by 200% also only gives them one clone.

If you’re having issues summoning clones, there may be an answer to your problem. It seems the Warframe Duplex Bond Mod clone summoning only counts the skill’s base Energy cost and disregards Ability Efficiency changes. However, it’s not clear whether this is its intended mechanic or a bug. More information still needs to be gathered for this issue at the moment.

One other thing that is not mentioned is that the Warframe Duplex Bond Mod clone cannot trigger Abilities and Mods. Companion Mods like Energy Generator and Synth Deconstruct also only applied to the original. That means a clone can only damage enemies with the basic attack of the original Companion.

For that reason, it’s better to use this Mod on a Robotic Companion since it relies less on Abilities compared to Beast Companions. At the moment, Sentinels with Verglas or Helstrum seems to be the best option for Duplex clones, thanks to its huge base damage output.
