The number of 40k games is already legion, but they’re adding one more to their ranks now that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has a release date. With so many games in the franchise from so many different developers, the quality varies, to say the least. That said, Space Marine was one of the better titles to use the license for, and it currently holds a Very Positive rating on Steam. More than a decade will have elapsed by the time the sequel finally drops. That might be a good thing. If the trailers are anything to go by, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 may best the original when it finally releases. That’s all thanks to the hard work of World War Z dev Saber Interactive.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Gets a 2024 Release Date
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has an official release date of September 9, 2024. That’s almost exactly 13 years since the original’s release. If nothing else, the long wait means that the developer has had plenty of time to decide which direction it wants to take the license. 40k is the definitive Grimdark series, and there’s a lot to love about it if you’re into edgy sci-fi. Not only is the franchise top-tier satire, but it also serves up rollicking action and no small amount of gore. The Space Marines aren’t just genetically modified supersoldiers: they’re the Imperium’s greatest warriors. Getting a chance to step into their shoes is always a treat.
In Space Marine 2, the player will be facing off against the Tyranid, a planet-devouring horde that wants nothing more than to feast on the bones of the Imperium. Of course, a horde of drooling aliens doesn’t compare to a walking tank with a chainsword. What we’ve seen of the combat so far in this third-person action game looks as gory and ridiculous as you’d expect. 40k has never been a franchise about subtlety, and with the release of Space Marine 2 in 2024, it looks like things are only going to get bloodier. Fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and
