Like sinking in quicksand or getting attacked by a shark, some fears are rather irrational and very unlikely to happen in our lifetime. However, the chances of them happening are never zero, just like the chance of a Washington family’s glass shower door exploding on their 7-year-old son. According to one of the parent’s post on r/Wellthatsucks, the son was taking a shower when suddenly the Bluetooth speaker the family placed on a metal railing above fell down, bouncing off the boy’s back and straight into the glass door, exploding it on impact.
“My 7 yo kiddo ended up taking a glass shower tonight,” the Washington parent said, rather sarcastically but in a grateful tone, as their son was fortunately not injured. However, the accident was still shocking enough to give the 7-year-old a big scare. “I heard it happen and sprinted across the house and he was in my bed buck naked just shaking,” the parent recalled, but the son wasn’t even scratched.
Fortunately, they didn’t give him a hard time and instead hugged him, relieved he wasn’t hurt. “Poor little dude. He’ll have a fun story for school tomorrow,” the parent laughed.
It goes without saying that glass is always dangerous, no matter its form. Still, the fact that the bathroom shower was made of tempered glass was the primary reason the son wasn’t hurt at all. “Another win for tempered glass! When it breaks it turns into these gravel sized bits. They can still be sharp enough to cut you, but more of a scrape than the deep cuts you get from non-tempered glass,” explains a commenter.
Another person chimed in, saying how much they hate the “architectural mania” for always using tempered glass. “I’m eternally grateful that it was tempered safety glass,” the parent argued. The 7-year-old will forever remember what happened, though, and likely always be scared or anxious around glass shower doors. “New fear unlocked..Really glad he walked away unharmed,” remarks a Redditor.
Besides the simple reminder that tempered glass, while sometimes weak, will always be safer than normal glass, this 7-year-old’s “glass shower” incident is a good lesson to avoid placing weighty objects like Bluetooth speakers on shower railings. After all, the young boy could have been badly bruised had the falling object been a plus-size bottle of shampoo or something similar.
