Public unease is rising in Washington D.C. as residents notice a sudden surge of police and federal agents patrolling neighborhoods. Many videos and posts that show the tense situation in the area have appeared online, with many pointing out that the city hasnโt felt this tightly controlled in years. Such is the case of one local woman who filmed a TikTok video from her car, warning others to tread carefully in the current climate.
The woman, who goes by Toni Childs, reflected on her earlier years in the city, saying it often took something outrageous to get police to intervene. She said that back then, officers turned a blind eye to much of what happened in certain areas. Now, however, she has observed that the streets are filled with uniforms from nearly every federal agency, including Capitol Police, Park Police, Secret Service, MPD, DEA, and even the FBI. โWhen I was driving to work this morning, it literally looked like we were in the last times. Like they were preparing for Armageddon,โ she said, adding she had never seen so many officers in the capital at once.
As a lifelong DMV resident, she described the change as jarring, especially since she believes the city is far safer today than it was in the 1990s or early 2000s. She urged people to act carefully in this new environment, saying, “Please mind your business. Don’t jaywalk. Don’t smoke in public. Don’t do none of that stupid sh*t because now they’re finding any excuse to go and imprison and detain like black and brown people in the district.โ
Netizens React to Washington D.C. Womanโs Video
In the comment section of her post, some shared disbelief that the city had changed so dramatically. One person wrote, โI was wondering how I survived my teens and 20โs in DC and never got arrested or robbed.โ A second admitted they were shocked to see the city so heavily patrolled, saying police once barely reacted to anything at all. Several netizens swapped stories about the inconsistency of law enforcement in past years. โI know someone that got pulled over for drunk driving and the police still let them go,โ one person remarked. Another recalled, โLast year I was robbed and beaten up, bag and computer was stolen and nobody did ANYTHING.โ
Some also worried about what the heavy police presence could mean for the future. “Theyโre acting like theyโre preparing for a war or some insane takeover,” one person commented. Another warned, “It only starts with DC. Other cities are next I fear.” And of course, a few couldnโt help but call out the resources being used. “What a waste of money and resources,” one frustrated comment read. “Imagine the FBI cases being paused to put agents on night shift patrolโฆ?โ
