A line of work that involves tips in one’s pay can be rough, but that doesn’t give anyone the right to demand it. One DoorDash driver in Vancouver, Washington, took things to the extreme by bringing a gun to intimidate a customer to pay a cash tip. A homeowner’s family had ordered around $100 worth of groceries via DoorDash and tipped the driver through the app. However, the order noted that a cash tip was also supposed to be paid out, so the delivery man stormed his way to the house the next day armed with a handgun.
“You forgot to give me my tip,” the DoorDash man snarled at the Washington homeowner. Things got so heated the two men got physical, and that’s when the customer realized the grocery driver was wielding a gun on his waistband. “The only thing on my mind was I have to get this gun away from him. I’m in a struggle for my life at this point. It’s me or him,” the homeowner said, speaking to KPTV.
Thankfully, the Washington man disarmed the aggressive DoorDash driver and called the police to have him arrested. “I could have been shot, my kids could have been shot, if he would have got his hands on that gun, somebody could have gotten hurt,” he said in disbelief. Not only was this a terrifying incident of a man possibly attempting armed robbery for his cash tip, but the fact a delivery man returned to an address to threaten a homeowner and his family’s safety is just as scary.
“The man had at least 2 to 400 dollars to get a pistol. I don’t think money is his main issue,” noted a Redditor reacting to the story. “I bet, this is not his first time harassing a customer over a tip,” remarks a YouTube commenter. “That is no longer a tip. It’s armed robbery!” another chimes in. “Some people don’t have working brains,” another person sighed. “[He] Wasted his day begging for a tip instead of just making it up with another order and then lost his job over it…“
Truly, the DoorDash driver could have spent the time and gas money to complete another delivery instead of making an effort to threaten a customer to demand a cash tip. In the end, he got what he deserved, and now, one less dangerous armed individual is off the streets.
