A father in Washington was furious to find out that his son was taken to an ICE protest by his middle school. He has since appeared before the school board and blasted the ones responsible.
The moment was shared on TikTok by Vance Glaw, the father himself. As previously reported, he had suddenly found out that his 14-year-old son’s school, Cascade Middle School, had taken him and his classmates to an ICE protest. According to him, he was given no notice, and he hadn’t given his consent.
As he had previously announced, the Washington father appeared before the school board members. Dressed in a suit, Glaw didn’t hold back, saying, “It used to be political. Now it’s personal.”
Glaw, whose “stomach dropped” when he found out that his son was at an ICE protest, recalled a previous incident that happened near the middle school, where two children were killed. To him, taking the students to an ICE protest, given the current political climate regarding immigration, was neglectful and endangered them.
“I have the right to know where my child goes,” he said. “That was taken from me. I was not given notice; I was not given an email; I was not given a call.”
Accountability, Reactions
Glaw stated that someone was going to be held accountable, citing a local principal who was fired over a similar incident. He also stated that he was going to sue the school district to protect parents’ rights.
“I had an hour’s worth of yelling to do, but today I’m gonna narrow it down to two minutes because you didn’t give me enough time,” the Washington father concluded. “But I will be here at every school board meeting to continue what I had to say today.”
Many users applauded Glaw’s statement during the school board meeting, with some even pointing out other attendees rolling their eyes. To them, it was a win.
“Don’t give up and take us along this journey. We support you all the way!” one user commented. Another wrote, “Well said, sir. You will win this lawsuit.” A third netizen added, “You did great, and you made your main concern heard: your child’s safety.”
Currently, Glaw is raising funds to cover his legal expenses and to help relocate him and his son. According to him, both have received threats after he posted his first clip denouncing the incident.
