A man in Easton, Washington, observed a car swerving and crashing right next to an interstate, rolling over as a result. According to him, the driver admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel, and footage recorded by the man’s dashcam prior to the incident showed some “very weird” driving.
Footage of the crash and subsequent rescue was shared online by Roman, also known as romantheegreat. He is a content creator who often shows off a variety of vehicles, including cars, UTVs, and snowmobiles. The clip attached above became one of his biggest to date in about a day. It garnered 1.7 million views, 76,800 likes, and close to 300 comments.
The video shared by Roman was not pieced together chronologically, but the events leading up to the crash began about 45 minutes before the inevitable rollover. At around the 48-second mark, Roman showed a blue SUV traveling erratically. Dashcam footage showed the driver accelerating too quickly and then immediately slamming his brakes multiple times.
Rollover Crash
Later, Roman noticed that the blue vehicle crashed while driving down Interstate 90. Shocked by what he saw, he decided to act without hesitation. He drove as close to the accident as he could, exited his car, and immediately opened the SUV’s front passenger door, as the vehicle lay on its left side and was the driver’s only escape.
The driver soon emerged from the rolled-over SUV. According to Roman, he would later say that he fell asleep while behind the wheel. Based on the footage, and despite the severity of the crash, the driver appeared not to have suffered any major or serious injuries.
As Roman drove away, he then noticed that the SUV matched the one they had seen earlier during their drive.
Reactions
Many viewers reacted to the clip by insisting on driver safety. One said, “If you’re tired, don’t drive. You can put people’s lives at risk.” Others thought Roman helping was dangerous, given that his wife and child were in the backseat. One commented, “No shot I’d pull over and let my wife/new baby get rear-ended by a car going highway speed.”
Meanwhile, some applauded Roman’s willingness to help. One wrote, “Wow, you didn’t even hesitate to help! Good on you.” Another one added, “Thanks for helping. Those doors are heavy when on the side.”
Thankfully, it appears that the rollover crash went on to become a learning moment rather than a tragedy.
