Mothers deserve time and patience when they come home from the hospital with their newborn. It helps to have support from everybody in your life. Unfortunately, some people like to overstep the boundaries. Even though they may love you and just want to make you happy, they might not realize that mothers need time. For a woman in Washington, it was more than surprising for her to come home with her newborn to an entire room full of people.
Gina (@gina.gomi) shared a TikTok video of the anxiety-inducing thing that happened when she came home from the hospital after giving birth. In the video, you can see her holding her newborn baby in a room full of balloons and party decorations. She’s smiling but the smile doesn’t quite reach her eyes. It’s apparent that the party took her by complete surprise and she’s not actually happy about it.
The TikTok video is captioned, “Late night finds but it’s my husband rubbing my shoulder to keep me from breaking after coming home from the hospital, freshly postpartum with stitches to a baby “welcome home” party I begged my in-laws not to have…” Now, it makes sense that she wouldn’t be too happy about this. Talk about overstepping boundaries with a loved one! Imagine telling your in-laws that you need to adjust to the changes at home and they don’t listen. Instead, they invite people to your house to add to that stress.
Commenters weren’t just angry with the in-laws for this one; they were also mad at the husband. One commenter pointed out, “Rubbed your shoulder to make you able to cope with big feelings that he wasn’t willing to make his family feel by confronting them. He traded your comfortability for theirs.” Another person stated, “Ya’ll too nice I woulda cussed everybody out.” She really had every right to do so.
This tale does make an excellent point. If you love somebody, show them endless support where it counts. It’s obvious that her husband probably felt just as uncomfortable. He was likely sending her signals to stay calm through it all. But it doesn’t hurt to have somebody on your side when people want to overstep, either.
