The state of American healthcare can be downright scary. So many are going without because of a lack of access to affordable coverage. Others are finding that trials aren’t being funded anymore, leaving them without the care they need. A Washington mom with twins is scared for what’s happening to healthcare in America. As she says, “S**t is about to get really bad for all of us here in America.” We definitely need to take that as a warning, because we’ve all seen the signs.
Mallory Carlson (@malloryccarlson) shared a TikTok video outlining why she’s scared for many people in America regarding their healthcare. Mallory explains that she basically “lives” at the hospital with her identical twin daughters. Sadly, they’re currently going through a two-year chemo treatment plan. The plan is part of a clinical trial that she says “used to be funded by the government.” However, now they’re making cuts, and her children have to suffer because of it.
Mallory says that her family uses Medicaid, and she fears everything is about to get cut. The government does keep making threats, and as a result, so many families would be affected by what they’d lose. Mallory explains that they have a helpful social worker, but the healthcare system itself sets them up to fail. The social worker explained to her family that the social programs are drying up and there are no options for far too many families.
Mallory goes on to say that some people’s “privilege” makes it easy for them not to care about families going through this. But she explains that private insurance could be next. You’ll eventually need care. When you do, the hospitals could be flooded with families who used to be on Medicaid until they were cut from their benefits. The reality is, these aspects affect everyone in the long run.
Mallory says she never voted for “anyone who would allow this to happen.” Unfortunately, others did and they did it without even blinking. Commenters understood Mallory and what she’s going through, as many of them experienced it as well. One person commented on her video, “If people think the ‘mental health’ crisis is bad now they have no idea what’s coming when people are cut off from support and medication.” Another commented, “Insurance premiums will go up for EVERYONE. Hospitals – specifically rural ones will close. People need to realize they are not above the suffering that will happen.” People just need to start caring about other people; it’s as simple as that.
