Washington Woman’s Abusive Ex Husband Somehow Picks Up Her Prescriptions, ‘They’d Be Making a New Prescription for Me’

I totally understand why she ended the marriage

Long after a woman leaves an abusive relationship, it’s not uncommon she’ll be dealing with some aftermath. Even when you make a decision for yourself, sometimes an abusive ex will still try to get the upper hand and take control of your life. They’ll interfere with your daily routine, send a mountain of texts, or show up at your usual spots. One Washington woman found out just how dangerous an ex could be when he started interfering with her prescriptions.

@fannetasy

My ex-husband, who is an abusive coercive controller, and who also convinced everyone that I was his abuser, and got primary custody and full decision-making for our 2 children based on me allegedly being his abuser, sent me a text message yesterday, letting me know that when he went to the pharmacy to pick up our child’s prescriptions, they also gave him MY prescriptions. He wrote: “Hi, when I was picking up [our child]’s medicine they also gave me yours (it’s in a separate bag, I didn’t look).” He ADMITS to knowing that they gave him my prescriptions and taking them home with him anyway. Knowing full well that they should not have given them to him, and he should not have taken them. Obviously he knew that those were not our child’s medications. I’m livid. And nervous about what he is up to. What should I do? Is this the sort of thing that I should report to the police? My prescriptions include controlled substances, cancer medications, antidepressants, and meds to treat my various PTSD symptoms that he caused! Not to mention this is a violation of HIPAA. And also if I’m supposedly his abuser, why is he seeking out contact with me by taking my medications so that I have to get them from him? Like, come on people! Use your brains! I don’t blame the pharmacy, that’s more directed at the courts. I think the Pharmacy tech made an honest mistake. And I know how manipulative my ex is. He probably presented himself as my husband. He may have even asked if he could take the prescriptions. That would be totally something he would do. Anyway, I’m just really frustrated that our corrupt family court system boldly enables abusers. That wouldn’t even be possible if it weren’t ALL men.

Posted on TikTok by @fannetasy, captioned, “POV: Your ex is still coercively controlling and trying to provoke you 3 years after you ended the relationship. But I’m supposedly his abuser. Sure. Post-separation abuse is real. Stay strong ladies,” you can hear OP speaking with a pharmacy tech as she tries to pick up her medicine. The tech tells her, “Somebody picked up for you yesterday” to which she responds, “So, that’s my ex-husband. He’s not allowed to pick up my prescriptions.” She explains he’s manipulative and abusive, but wasn’t sure what to do with her possibly tampered prescription.

Fannetasy asks for a prescription refill but a new tech tells her the medication was actually returned to them sealed. According to the tech, her ex-husband never opened it. A third pharmacy tech then tells her he isn’t sure why their profiles are linked and how the mix-up occurred. She tells them, “We have children together,” but that doesn’t mean he’s allowed to take her prescription home.

In fact, he even admitted to taking them. According to Fannetasy, he told her, “Hi, when picking up [our child’s] medicine they also gave me yours (it’s in a separate bag, I didn’t look.)” She stated this was a clear admission he took her medication. She said the prescriptions included “controlled substances, cancer medications, antidepressants, and meds to treat my various PTSD symptoms that he caused!”

Still, commenters said they noticed some obvious red flags here. Even if the pharmacy tech said it appeared the prescriptions had not been opened, I wouldn’t be taking chances. One person commented, “Ex pharmacy tech here… NEVER TAKE MEDS THAT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT BACK.. I would have gotten them to give me a fresh refill while I’m standing there. This is so unacceptable!! The pharmacy needs to be reported to the board immediately… and tell them they took pills back that left the building.. THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN!!!”

In response, a commenter made a good point: “If someone has your address, DOB, last 4 of phone number, and a way to pay, anyone can pick up your meds. This isn’t on the pharmacy.” I’ve had firsthand experience of that myself, so that tracks.

However, allowing you to take home another person’s medication, without proper oversight, may be on the pharmacy. Fannetasy thinks it was an honest mistake, which is likely is. Hopefully, OP has taken the necessary precautions to protect herself, especially with an abusive ex husband stalking about. One commenter put it perfectly: “They’d be making a new prescription for me.”
