For the fans of hacking and going against oppressive governments, you have plenty of TV shows and games to go into. As far as games go though, no hacking game is more prominent than the Watch Dogs series. It’s a series I adore, and I know I’m not alone. I’ll defend Watch Dogs 1 to my deathbed though, no matter how bad everyone thinks it is. Today though, the next entry in the franchise graces our screens. Watch Dogs Legion is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia. You can check out the recent story trailer below.
Watch Dogs Legion takes place in a near-future version of London, one that’s on the brink of its downfall due to technological advancement. An unknown entity, merely known as Zero-Day, has framed DedSec for bombings across London, many of which are fatal. As a member of the hacktivist group, you’ll need to work to clear your name and take down those wreaking havoc across London. You’re going to need a little help though, which is where the game’s new mechanic comes into play.
Watch Dogs Legion features a Play as Anyone system, letting you recruit and take control of anyone in London. When that person dies though, you’ll lose them for good. Each character comes with specific perks that can help you along with different missions. Perhaps you can use a member of an elusive corporation to make your way into their facility and find their secrets. You could also use a drone expert to fly in with ease. The choice is up to you, leaving plenty of ways to complete your objectives. This roguelike system is unforeseen in AAA games, so it’ll be exciting to see how it works in Watch Dogs Legion.
Given the critical reception thus far, I have no doubts it was implemented well. For now, though, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the game. Do you think Watch Dogs Legion will prove to be one of the best games in the series? Excited to hack and kill as a granny? Let me know in the comments below.
