Wilshire Apartments in West Jordan, Utah, has now been called out for harassment. After an elderly woman named Karen called the HOA to tattle on her unsuspecting neighbors, she walked into their unit without being given permission. Her neighbors were home at the time and were quick to record the ordeal.
The footage shows an older woman standing several feet inside the threshold of her neighbor’s Utah-based apartment. The owner of the unit asks her to step out and tells her that she doesn’t have permission to enter his home.
Undeterred, Karen informs him that she’s waiting for a member of the board to come and show him how to move furniture in the designated elevator. Again, Karen’s asked to step out.
She finally backs down and steps into the hallway, but that doesn’t end their exchange. She claims she’s just trying to help, and reminds him once again that he cannot use the building’s main elevator for the purpose of moving his furniture.
When the footage first hit TikTok, many questioned why. After all, Karen’s an elderly woman. Isn’t the footage excessive, if not a little exploitative?
Ariana Bell, who lives with her son in the unit in question, says that the issue’s much deeper than that. She says that most elderly residents in her Utah complex have a seat on the HOA board, and don’t want newcomers around. She also gave more details in her comments section:
My Son said she just opened the door and started walking around the house, and then walked to the back and was staring at things like it’s any of her business… She’s a very successful wealthy woman who… sits on the board[,] and where I live they don’t want any young people living there.
Ariana claims she won’t let “boomers” in the HOA continue to push her around.
Utah HOA Entitlement or Typical Boomer Behavior?
Despite Ariana’s insistence that posting the video footage was a long time coming, viewers still seem torn. Some are supportive of kicking Karen to the curb, while others still feel Karen’s age should grant her behavior a pass.
“Her acting clueless is wild,” one viewer pointed out.
Another viewer disagreed:
[M]an show respect to your elders[,] even if she was being nosy[.]
Ariana promised to upload the rest of the story at a later date. She also claims the details will bring more harassment to light.
