Dementia is an awful condition to have, both for the victim and their family; the beloved Bruce Willis is an unfortunate example. And while realizing that someone doesn’t have dementia should be great news, for Wendy Williams, things might not be all sunshine and rainbows for her yet. According to TMZ, the former talk show hostess does not actually have frontotemporal dementia. After undergoing a series of tests with a specialist in New York City, her previous diagnosis has been cleared.
However, that would imply that the conservatorship Wendy Williams has been under legally would be incorrect. Her guardian claimed she tested positive for dementia, but that information was false. Yet she’s been under conservatorship this entire time, and she’ll need a judge to terminate it. The scary thing is that the courts could refuse the request, turning this once-tragic mental health condition into an even scarier legal battle. Details about Williams’ report and what her team decides to do will undoubtedly unfold gradually, but fans already have a strong idea of what’s going on.

“This is a horrible horrible case, in which doctor and her conservators committed fraud against both her and the courts. And besides terminating the conservatorship, there’s very little legal recourse,” remarks one Redditor. Another added that conservatorship, especially when it involves wealthy individuals, can get really shady. For instance, a random person and Tom Cruise have the same rights as individuals, but Williams legally doesn’t have control over her bank account, a terrifying situation to be in.
Others believe that Wendy Williams still has some sort of neurological problems. And while dementia might not be the issue, “her mental status and likely allowed some pretty nefarious people to come in and take advantage of her,” says one commenter. It’s easy to imagine some evil businessmen rushing in to financially abuse Williams during her most vulnerable moments. But it was actually her own son who turned out to be one of these “nefarious people,” as he reportedly spent $100K of her money on his day-to-day pleasures.
Whatever the case, regardless of whether people like her or not, no one deserves to be taken advantage of. And if it turns out that Wendy Williams was indeed abused to have her forcefully put under a guardianship, then those responsible need to pay. Until then, people can only hope that she doesn’t have some other mental disabilities that would still render her bound to a conservatorship.
