Wentworth Miller, the actor largely known for his role in Prison Break and (currently) on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, has fired back against a mean-spirited meme. Miller took to his Facebook page and shared a screenshot of the meme in question.

The image uses a picture of Miller shirtless next to a picture of him with some visible weight gain. Posting the picture, Wentworth Miller opened up about his past battles with depression and eating.

“Today I found myself the subject of an Internet meme,” Miller wrote. “Not for the first time. This one, however, stands out from the rest. “I’ve struggled with depression since childhood,” he wrote. “It’s a battle that’s cost me time, opportunities, relationships, and a thousand sleepless nights. In 2010, at the lowest point in my adult life, I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to.”

Wentworth Miller, despite the unwanted attention, looks at the picture and is reminded of his past battles. “I survived. … Now, when I see that image of me in my red t-shirt, a rare smile on my face, I am reminded of my struggle,” he wrote. “My endurance and my perseverance in the face of all kinds of demons. Some within. Some without. Like a dandelion up through the pavement, I persist.”

Miller has urged people that are struggling to seek out help.

For what it’s worth, we’re glad the actor has overcome these struggles. I, for one, enjoy his portrayal of Captain Cold on both The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow really enjoyable. I couldn’t see anybody else for the role.
