We have all grown accustomed to politicians making terrible decisions that affect their citizens, but one particular state might be suffering more than others due to a recent questionable announcement. If you didn’t know, Governor Morrisey announced plans today to build a Google Data Center in Putnam County, West Virginia. As you can imagine, people were unhappy with this announcement, as the project will likely raise power bills and affect several aspects of West Virginians’ daily lives.

Governor Morrisey issued the following statement.
We’re excited to share that Google has purchased land in Putnam County, West Virginia for a new data center campus,” said Clay Allsop, regional head of data center public affairs for Google. “We are early in the process, and substantial work remains, but we are appreciative of the strong business environment created by Governor Morrisey to provide a pathway for projects of this scale. We look forward to partnering with the Governor and local leaders in Putnam County on the opportunity here in West Virginia.
Naturally, the above statement angered several citizens, even those outside of Putnam. While the official post on the website claims the government is “working to bring here – one that creates jobs, strengthens infrastructure, and positions West Virginia for long-term growth,” many have viewed it differently, arguing that it will only backfire.
So far, most West Virginians believe this project will only make life in the state more expensive, as power bills will likely rise. Some are also angry, as several green energy initiatives for the state have never been accepted, but a data center seems to be fine.
It may go without saying, but almost every citizen is blaming Morrisey, directing their anger toward him.
“That’s what happens when you elect a Jersey snake,” one user commented.
“This does absolutely nothing for the state. Making the rich richer off the backs and land of the working class. We get what we vote for,” commented another user.

Furthermore, many Reddit and X users believe that Morrisey is unfit to be governor, especially since he was born outside West Virginia, which they think means he does not understand the issues that West Virginians have faced for years.
At the time of writing, according to the official announcement, the project seems to be in its early stages. With that in mind, people might have enough time to voice their concerns about this and, hopefully, encourage the government to halt or scrap the project, as it seems to bring more drawbacks than advantages. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see how this progresses in the coming months.
