What Are Pacts in Soulframe? Answered

An Envoy’s first choice

Soulframe All Pacts Explained

The first system Envoys will need to get acquainted with in Soulframe is Pacts. When your character spawns, you’ll be able to pick between three. Each one has a unique choice of armor, three spells you can unlock while leveling up, and a starting faction. However, the game doesn’t tell you this right away, and you’re left with nothing but a cool outfit and a lot of questions. For those reasons, we’ll tell you the basics of Pacts in Soulframe.

[Disclaimer: This guide contains information from Preludes 9, and we’ll update it once new patches for the game roll out.]

All Three Starter Pacts in Soulframe, Explained

After the initial cutscene and customizing your character, you’ll spawn in Midrath and will choose between three of the Pacts that Soulframe has right now. The three pacts appear as Courage, Spirit, and Grace. Each one represents a stat and gameplay style. Here’s the full breakdown:

  • Courage (Tethren)
    • Faction: Kith of Kings
    • Gameplay Style: Tank/DPS oriented.
    • Spells:
      • Felllust: DPS-increase spell with each consecutive hit.
      • Call of the Ancients: Taunt skill.
      • Clash: Stagger enemies around you.
    • Weapon: Sollos-I (Sword).
  • Spirit (Oscelda)
    • Faction: Alca’s Children
    • Gameplay Style: Magic/Healer oriented.
    • Spells:
      • Bestone: Crowd-control skill.
      • Elderbloom: Healing spell.
      • Phantom Flock: DPS spells that summon birds to attack enemies.
    • Weapon: Odiac.
  • Grace (Sirin)
    • Faction: Silent Rose
    • Gameplay Style: Stealth/Range oriented.
    • Spells:
      • Picktrix Powder: Blinding spells.
      • Trick of the Light: Spawns a decoy to distract foes.
      • Glamour: Spell that hides you and lets you sneak on enemies.
    • Weapon: Thistle (Bow).

Which Pact is the Best?

At the moment of writing, which is during Preludes 9, it might be a bit too hard to tell if there’s one “meta” pact. However, Grace (Sirin) and Spirit (Oscelda) seem to be the best. Both have excellent DPS skills and utility spells to keep. Courage (Tethren) isn’t bad, but it suffers due to a few auto-lock issues in melee combat. You can swap weapons later, but newcomers might find it a bit clunky.

Can You Change Pacts?

Yes, with some effort, though. While you can pick between three Pacts, there are a few more you can unlock while playing. One example is the Garren Rood Pact, which you can craft after beating the Stag boss during the introductory quests. You can also swap between starter Pacts by changing factions, reaching Rank 2, and purchasing the necessary item.

If you’re struggling when picking, we recommend either the Grace or Spirit Pacts. However, if it’s the starting weapon you don’t like, keep the Pact and look for the Blacksmith to swap your armaments. It might make things more enjoyable for you.
