We’ve probably all had our fair share of time around survival games and the many mechanics they offer. However, Nightingale brings something new to the table with Realm Cards. Realm Cards are extremely valuable and can make a big difference when it comes to travel and some other aspects of the game, but they can be pretty confusing if you don’t already know what you’re doing. Let’s take a look at what, exactly, Realm Cards are in Nightingale and how they work.

Nightingale: Realm Cards Explained

Realm Cards are pretty cool. Seriously. They’re used for travel throughout Nightingale‘s “sundered arcane network.” In essence, the cards that you combine create the Realm that you will exist on and any future Realms you wish to travel to. You can combine Biome, Major, and Minor cards to create the Realm in several ways. This means that each Realm will include procedurally generated creatures, resources, weather, and more, and it’s all influenced by you.

When I say combining cards, you can’t just do it wherever you please. You must combine all three types of Realm Cards within one of Nightingale‘s Portal Machines. After combing your cards at the Portal Machine, you’ll be able to travel to a new Realm that you have created with your own Minor, Major, and Biome cards. Though, you should be careful. It isn’t difficult to create a more dangerous Realm when you aren’t yet ready for it.

Getting your hands on Realm Cards isn’t too difficult, but it certainly isn’t easy either. You can pick them up in various ways, including through quests, breaking down old Fae Ruins, or even crafting them by yourself.

All Realm Card Types in Nightingale

Biome Cards help to determine the biome of the new Realm in creation. These cards determine whether your new Realm will be full of thick woodlands and forests, marshy and wet with spiders (ew), or even dry and barren.

Major Cards will determine the different factions, threats, and phenomena that you will encounter in your new Realm. While one Major Card might leave you in a relatively safe situation, others will shove you into a Realm with dangers so strong you haven’t the slightest chance of survival. These cards are important to read through thoroughly before using.

Minor Cards determine the smaller, more personal aspects that can be added into a new Realm. This can mean a means to tweak the environment within your Realm, add in smaller points of interest, or even give you access to certain resources over others.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
