Have you heard of the name Glorbo floating around in the Destiny 2 community? You might’ve seen some posts on social media saying there’s a new boss encounter in the game named Glorbo. Some say it can only spawn when you unlock and do a specific emote. At the same time, some say that it is a new race that will take all of your Exotics if you get killed by it. Sounds too crazy to be true, right? Well, you assume right.

Glorbo in Destiny 2 is not an actual new enemy, boss, or even NPC. It is a product of a prank by Reddit users who are fed up with the fake news and misinformation plaguing the Destiny 2 community. Although it all started with World of Warcraft players. Lately, AI bots have written many articles using tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Bing Chat, and others. While they read just like legitimate news or guides, they are full of false information about the game.

Then to combat this “AI menace,” some Destiny 2 players on Reddit post fake information about Glorbo. Reddit user Grauntchtalak “claims” that by making something as silly as Glorbo, Bungie is trying too hard to create artificial hype. TR_CardGames073 wrote that Glorbo is a reskinned Taken Tormentor. It can push you around the map and steal all your currencies and materials. Tentacle_poxsicle added that Glorbo is a much easier boss than Takis, Eater of Worlds, and P’Blart Mahkop. Sucobe even made a fake Twitter post screenshot saying that Bungie has patched a bug related to Glorbo Encounter, as seen above.

Destiny 2 community plans to keep making up Glorbo fake news as ridiculously as possible. They hoped this effort could expose AI content’s flaws and limitations since they took information from websites and social media posts. At the same time, doing so should also make people more aware and wary of fake news. But in the process, they also wanted to have fun and humor to show their love for the game and the player base’s experiences.

Now that you know Glorbo isn’t real, we can all sit back and hypothesize what kind of fake weapons we could get from Glorbo. Maybe the Glorbonator or a Glorbo Cannon. Those could work.
