Having lots of Stamina is important, so getting max Stamina Wheels in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom should be your top priority. After all, Stamina is used for both exploring the lands of Hyrule as well as fending off its dangers. But how much Stamina can Link have and how can you upgrade the Wheel? You don’t have to wonder anymore. This Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom guide will tell you everything you need to know about upgrading Link’s max Hearts and Stamina.

The max amount of Stamina that Link can have in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is three Stamina Wheels. You will start out with only one full Stamina Wheel. Then to fully upgrade the two additional Wheels, you will have to collect 10 Stamina Vessels. Each Stamina Wheel is filled by obtaining five Stamina Vessels.

Don’t forget that you can also heal Stamina by consuming Elixirs and Meals, such as:

  • Energizing Elixir: Restores 45% of Stamina.
    • Chuchu Jelly x1
    • Cricket x2
  • Energizing Mushroom Skewer: Restores 75% Stamina and four Hearts.
    • Skyshrooms x2
    • Stambulbs x2
    • Stamella Shroom x1
  • Energizing Seafood Skewer: Restores 45% Stamina and 5 Hearts.
    • Bright-Eyed Crab x1
    • Wildberry x1

Meanwhile, the max amount of Health, or Hearts, is 30 Hearts. At the beginning of the game, continuing where we left off in Breath of the Wild, Link has full 30 Hearts. But thanks to the revived mummified Ganon, Link ends up losing both his extra Hearts and an arm to boot! To add more Hearts, you will then need to collect Heart Containers. Each Container will give you one extra Heart.

Increasing Link’s Hearts and Stamina to their max amount in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom works the same way as in the previous game. Complete Shrines to gain Light of Blessings and pray at any Goddess Statues all over Hyrule to exchange them. You should obtain one Light of Blessing by clearing out one Shrine. But do keep in mind that you will need four Light of Blessings to upgrade Link’s Health or Stamina.

When you interact with a Goddess Statue, you can choose between receiving a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel. Choose the Stamina Vessel, and you will gain one-fifth of a Stamina Wheel. This means you will have to obtain five Stamina Vessels to get one full Stamina Wheel upgrade.

Picking a Heart Container will give Link one additional permanent Heart. Remember that the yellow Heart gained from Meals is temporary and will disappear after taking damage, while a permanent Health upgrade is a red-colored Heart. Clearing out the four elemental Temples as part of the Main Quests will also give you Heart Containers. As there are four Temples — Fire, Wind, Water, and Lightning — going through the story missions should reward you with four bonus Hearts.

It is recommended to upgrade Link’s max Stamina first in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. You can conserve Hearts by playing more strategically, but Stamina is much more crucial for both exploration and combat. But in case you’re not sure which one to upgrade first, you can switch between added Health or Stamina by spending 100 Rupees.
