The Acolyte is the next Star Wars series coming to Disney Plus. Created by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), the series will premiere on June 4, 2024. It stars Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), and Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies). The Acolyte follows a group of Jedi who are investigating a crime spree, and based on the trailer, they end up encountering someone who could be a Sith Lord. With the Star Wars timeline being a little confusing, you might be wondering when exactly The Acolyte takes place. So, let’s look at The High Republic on the Star Wars timeline.
What Is The Acolyte’s The High Republic?
The Acolyte takes place in the High Republic era of Star Wars. Specifically, it takes place 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. This means that many of the characters we know and love from prior Star Wars live-action projects won’t be making appearances. Characters like Yoda will probably appear in the show because they are hundreds of years old. Fans already think they’ve spotted Plo Koon which you can see in the image above. Yoda is more of a sure bet considering he is a key figure in the canon novels and comic books set in the High Republic era.
So, what exactly is The High Republic? Well, it’s an era of Star Wars where the Jedi Order bloomed and they attempted to map out and explore the Outer Rim for the Galactic Republic. This is the era that directly led to The Phantom Menace and the sort of complacency of the Jedi Order that led to The Clone Wars. The High Republic is a relatively new concept, beginning in 2020. The first novel set in the period is Charles Soule’s Light of the Jedi. The Disney Plus animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is also set during The High Republic.
Star Wars: Eclipse – the announced video game from Detroit: Become Human studio Quantic Dream – is also set in The High Republic. However, The Acolyte is the first time that the era is being represented in live-action. So, be prepared to see many different lightsabers belonging to many different Jedi. Previous reports indicate that there’ll be more Jedi in The Acolyte than in any other Star Wars project. You can see The High Republic when The Acolyte has its two-episode premiere on Disney Plus, on June 4, 2024.
