South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace called for stripping Ilhan Omar’s citizenship if authorities prove immigration fraud. Her demand followed a Homeland Security Investigations raid on the Minnesota congresswoman’s home under a judicially authorized warrant. Critics pushed back against her proposal to remove Omar from the country.
In a post on X, she described the raid as reportedly tied to Omar’s immigration paperwork. “If the fraud is proven, she should be denaturalized and removed from this country,” she wrote. She also accused Democrats and Republicans on the House Oversight Committee of blocking her effort to subpoena immigration records. The request concerned Omar and a man she called her “alleged brother-husband.” She concluded: “NO ONE is above the law.”
Nancy Mace’s Ilhan Omar Remarks Draw Calls for Accountability
Replies on X questioned Mace’s consistency, priorities and demands, while others supported action against Omar.
“When it’s proven she’s innocent you need to resign,” one user wrote. Another challenged her treatment of Trump: “Except Trump, you let him be above the law”.
On due process, another response said, “A search warrant is not a conviction.” Another questioned the timing: “Very very suspicious 3 weeks before midterms.”
Her account of the blocked subpoena prompted another demand: “which republicans?? Name them.” A separate reply challenged her priorities: “Your obsession with her is so entertaining. Too bad you don’t obsess over Americans in need like that.”
Others welcomed enforcement: “It’s about time we see some action. I am tired of all talk and no show.” Another supported removal: “Seconded. She should go and practice free speech in Somalia”.
Still, one user demanded follow-through: “Are you going to actually DO SOMETHING or just post about it?” Another expressed doubt: “Yeah, I don’t have too much faith that any of this will result in anything, she’s well protected.”
Mace conditioned her proposal on proving fraud. Her post did not establish whether authorities would pursue revoking Omar’s citizenship.
