After their group is attacked by bandits, Henry is separated from his loyal companions, Mutt and Pebbles. While your hound can assist you in battle, Pebbles is your default mount, making exploration easier. Unfortunately, getting her back isn’t so simple. The game will eventually provide you with a free horse, but you can attempt to reclaim Pebbles early in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. However, you must first complete certain main missions to retrieve your missing horse.

There are four ways to get a horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2:

  • Retrieve Pebbles
  • Get Herring for free
  • Steal a horse
  • Buy a new horse

If you want to get Pebbles, you need to complete some main quests first until you reach Semine. After parting ways with Hans, Henry can either approach the blacksmith or the miller. If you decide to help the blacksmith, he will eventually tell you to visit Semine. There, you will find Pebbles grazing on the grass in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Apparently, the bandits sold the horse to Groom Ballatay. Although he bought her for a very low price, he refuses to part with her without some compensation. If you have a high Speech skill, you can convince him to return Pebbles to you. If that fails, you will need to pay him 160 coins, though you can try to haggle.

Although Pebbles isn’t the best horse around, you may want to consider keeping her. Her stats make her one of the worst horses in the game, but she will improve considerably if you unlock the Good Old Pebbles perk. You just need to level up your Horsemanship skill to 14 to get it.

Besides Pebbles, you can also get another horse for free during the Back in the Saddle mission. After convincing Von Bergow that Hans is a nobleman, he will assign you a special task. Von Bergow is quite generous and even gives Henry a new horse. Herring initially has better stats than Pebbles, but I don’t recommend replacing your original horse.

These two horses are the ones you can get for free. If you are very early in the game and just want a mount, you can consider stealing one. However, keep in mind that a stolen horse is temporary. While you can ride it to your heart’s content, you won’t be able to call it if you decide to ditch it.

If you want to keep it, you need to find horse traders to make the stolen horse yours. Be careful, though, as stealing a horse is a major crime, and you don’t want to get caught. You can also buy new horses from horse traders, but I doubt new players have enough coins to afford one.
