Love is in the air, at least until it smacks a sleeping Snorlax in the head. Did I say love? I meant a Love Ball. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet give players plenty of ways to catch the Pokemon of their dreams, so there’s a proper tool for every job. If you’re trying to capture Pokemon of a particular gender, the Love Ball will give you the boost you need. With this special ball, you’ll have your Pokedex filled in no time at all. Just don’t tell Cupid that we’ve replaced him. Nurse Joy doesn’t need another patient.

Thanks to its pink hue and heart icon, there’s no mistaking the Love Ball. This unique item increases your chances of catching a Pokemon of a different gender than your current battle Pokemon. Though that’s a niche strategy that might not help you bag a Legendary, it’s one you’ll be thankful to have available. The first step, of course, is getting your hands on this pink party favor. There are two way to get your hands on a Love Ball in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet:

  • Win one at an auction
  • Win one as an Academy Ace Tournament reward

To score a Love Ball the first way, you’ll first need to unlock auctions by completing the Cascarrafa’s Gym Challenge. Once you’ve done that, head to the Porto Marina Auction House. Auctions occur there both in real-time and randomly as you play. If the Love Ball isn’t there when you arrive, simply come back later. You’ll also need enough money for the winning bid, so don’t show up with empty pockets.

Alternatively, you can earn the Love Ball as a reward for completing the Academy Ace Tournament. Just like the Auction House, however, you’ll first need to unlock the tournament. Doing so requires you to finish the game and defeat all eight Gym Leaders in rematches. That’s a tall order, but Ash didn’t exactly make becoming a Pokemon Master look easy. At least there’s a lot to love about the reward.
