The latest patch of Genshin Impact has brought a new region called Fontaine with a bunch of new quests, items, characters, and secret areas to discover. As you are completing quests one by one, you may get a hold of a item called Key to Some Place in the Institute. The trick is that game doesn’t tell you what door it will unlock. So here is where you can use the Key to Some Place in the Institute in Genshin Impact.
Key to Some Place Location in Genshin Impact
If you have already the Key to Some Place in the Institute in Genshin Impact, then you must have already completed the Aqueous Tidemarks quest. That is because the location of the key can only be accessed after completing this long quest.
Just in case you don’t have the key, fast travel back to the Institute of Natural Philosophy, Fontaine teleport waypoint. Once you got there, inside the chamber should be a book on a table that you can interact with. Interacting with it will teleport you to the Narzissenkreuz Ordo.
In this chamber, there are two chests that can be found on the other side of the room. One is a Precious Chest and the other is an Exquisite Chest. The key is inside the Exquisite Chest. In the description, it is vaguely stated that the key will open a certain door somewhere in the Institute and it is also a quest item.
Now that you have the key, fast travel to the location where you had to solve the gate puzzle in. Once you got there, use the already-opened iron gate to continue your way. You will back and forth between the surface and water as you did in the quest until you reach the staircase that leads to a long corridor.

In order to progress the quest you would turn left and continue your way. But this time, once you got out of the water, turn right instead and you will see a giant door with a platform to place the key on the right side of it. This is the door that you can use the Key to Some Place in the Institute to open up.
That is everything you need to know about the location of the key and where to use it. Inside the chamber, you will come across a Precious Chest and also unlock the A Study in Sable achievement.
