That said, one of the many iconic characters, Shang Tsung, returns bearing quite a few differences compared to the series’ past exploits. Most notably, Tsung carries a different voice actor, throwing many fans for a loop. If you’re one of the many with this question, here’s everything you need to know about who voices Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat 1.

Much like the changes to many of the series’ characters, Shang Tsung sees a new voice actor in Mortal Kombat 1, as Alan Lee is now the voice of evil. Shang Tsung was previously voiced by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa in Mortal Kombat 11. Tagawa also played as the character in the 1995 Mortal Kombat film, and its sequel, Mortal Kombat Annihilation.

Lee has quite a storied history across gaming and television. Lee is credited for lending his voice in Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Fire Emblem Heroes, and 2022’s Saints Row reboot. Conversely, he’s voiced he English dubs of Bill in One Piece, Suiryu in One Punch Man, and Lower Six in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Lee has done quite a bit in the industry, and his talents in Mortal Kombat 1 have been well-received by the community.

Just like that, that’s everything you need to know about who voices Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat 1. It’s not everyday a storied villain’s voice actor is replaced, but Lee’s take matches what fans have come to love.
