Still talking, though

Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas posted on X that voters “did their big one this election” and that it is now on officials to end corruption, hold people accountable, and lower costs, adding that “the work continues.” The post, which included a clip of her recent CNN interview, quickly drew responses from users who noted she lost the Democratic Senate primary earlier this year to James Talarico and will leave the House when her term ends. Several replies questioned her role in the next phase of the work she described.

The people did their big one this election. Now it’s on us to end corruption, hold folks’ feet to the fire, and lower costs.

The video shows Crockett seated on a CNN set, being asked what the first six months should look like for Democrats who now control the House and the Senate. The interviewer notes that she served on the Oversight Committee and asks whether the priority is “accountability or accounting.”

In the clip, Crockett responds, “I think both. I think you’ve got to walk and chew gum,” explaining that voters were “absolutely so invested in making sure that this corruption is rooted out” while also citing cost as a top issue. She continues, “So we’ve got to deal with tariffs, we’ve got to deal with the war, and we have to deal with these investigations.”

Addressing online calls for people to “get locked up,” she says she is “not necessarily disagreeing” but notes that “it’s not the House or the Senate” that does the locking up, while arguing that Congress can begin investigations. She adds that “the American people need to understand your work is not done. It is just beginning,” and that real accountability requires going out and voting in 2028.

According to the post text accompanying the video, Crockett wrote that “the people did their big one this election” and that it is now on officials to “end corruption, hold folks’ feet to the fire, and lower costs,” concluding that “the work continues.”

Crockett lost the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate earlier this year to state Rep. James Talarico and will leave the House when her current term ends in January 2027. The clip itself does not address her primary loss or departure from Congress.

Responses to Crockett’s Post on Continuing the Work

Several commenters focused on her upcoming departure from the House, with one writing, “Well you won’t have a seat,,,I guess it’s off to grandma’s house.”

Another replied, “Hahaha!!! Girl, you’re not holding ‘nuttin’. Your *expletive* is so gone.”

Others tied their responses to her primary loss to James Talarico, including “You wanted Talarico to lose, dear. Kick rocks” and “Isn’t this the woman who said Talarico would lose, refused to endorse him, and went on to mock him? Why are we listening to her again?”

At the same time, some expressed support for her continued involvement in the conversation. One wrote, “I’m so sad that you won’t be in The House next year… You make so much sense and stand 10 toes down. You’re a real one, and we will miss you!”

Another said, “We will stand with those who are committed to the work ahead. Not to those who are playing games.”

The exchange has become part of the broader discussion about what comes next for Texas Democrats after the midterms and for Crockett as she prepares to leave Congress. How her post fits into that ongoing conversation remains open for continued response.
