Christine Brown, one of the stars of the TLC series Sister Wives, has officially left the Brown family, leaving her ex-husband Kody and fellow sister wives Meri, Janelle, and Robyn behind to deal with a violent storm of emotions, with Kody and the wives’ reacting to Christine’s decision with everything from anger to confusion, and everything in between.
In November 2021, Christine Brown announced via an Instagram post that she would be leaving Kody and the Brown family, stating that “After 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave.” Following her split from Kody, Christine has announced that she and her twelve-year-old daughter Truely will be moving from the Brown family home in Arizona to Salt Lake City, Utah – a decision that Christine solidified on the latest episode of Sister Wives with the announcement that she had put her and Kody’s home on the market, leading to a lot of emotions being revealed on-screen and in the show’s straight-to-camera confessionals.
Kody Brown and His Wives React to Christine Leaving
One of the people with the biggest stakes in the divorce is Kody Brown, with whom Christine had a “spiritual marriage” and six children before she chose to leave.
“I’m angry about Christine leaving the family,” Kody admitted to PEOPLE Magazine in an exclusive clip from Sunday’s episode. “I’m angry that she’s moving to Utah. I’m angry that she’s trying to sell the house. I’m angry that she moved my stuff out. I’m angry that she asked me to leave. I’m angry about a lot of things.”
Some of Brown’s other wives have admitted that the dissolution of Kody and Christine’s marriage is not a surprise to them, a fact which audiences of Sister Wives can surely attest to, but the wives’ reactions to Christine’s decision to buy a new home and essentially begin her own life indicate that they weren’t expecting it to go this far, or to happen so soon.
Robyn, Kody’s newest wife and the only one he’s had a wedding with, has stated that she feels like she’s been “pushed out of an airplane and I wasn’t ready,” according to PEOPLE.
“There’s really just nothing for me to say,” Meri, another of Kody’s wives and a member of the original three wives alongside Christine and Janelle, stated. “What am I supposed to say? ‘Congratulations, you’re leaving the family?'”
Janelle, the third sister wife, apparently reacted to Christine’s announcement in the Sister Wives episode with more enthusiasm, cheering when Christine announced that she and Truely would be moving to Utah and prompting Kody to respond with, “Why is Janelle saying ‘yay’? I don’t get her thinking.”
Regarding her decision to leave the Brown family and the polygamist lifestyle behind, Christine Brown shared her own thoughts with Yahoo! Life, stating that since leaving Kody, she’s “changed” and is “looking forward with more positivity.” In discussing why she exited the Browns’ polygamist marriage, Christine has called the lifestyle an “emotionally difficult” one and stated that since leaving, she’s had more time to focus on being herself instead of being a wife.
“There’s no filter anymore in how I see myself,” she told Yahoo! “I just see myself — versus seeing myself through the filter of somebody else.”
Christine has also explained that she’s holding off on entering a relationship just yet, but will “romantically date” in the future.
It’s currently unclear how Christine’s decision to leave Kody and the Brown family will have not only on their lives but also on Sister Wives, whose seventeenth season is currently available on TLC and TLC Go.
