In soaps, no promise is safe from a plot twist. California fans who love them some General Hospital know this all too well. It doesn’t matter if somebody wished upon an ancient star to be immortal, or they are a number one fan favorite; just about anybody can go for any number of absurd reasons. Not even the ones the actors make about their own future on the show.
Reports from Soap Opera Network indicate “General Hospital” is planning to kill off Chris McKenna’s character, Jack Brennan, in a storyline expected to unfold this fall. Neither McKenna nor the show has confirmed the reports quite yet.
The reports land just over a year after McKenna directly addressed exit rumors at General Hospital Fan Club Weekend, revealing he’d actually been promoted to contract status on the show the opposite of leaving. Brennan has only grown more central since then, entangled in a love triangle involving Carly and Valentin and now tied to a major shake-up at the WSB.
California Fans In Shock Over Rumored Star Exit
Following rumors that Chris McKenna’s character, Jack, is being written off the California produced General Hospital, the soap opera’s fanbase took to social media to voice their deep frustration. Many viewers feel the show is cutting short a compelling story arc, calling the move a “big mistake” and noting that there was “tons of story left there and ChrisLMcKenna is terrific!”
Others shared similar sentiments regarding the character’s dynamics, writing, “This SUCKS!! I love him and he and Nina are cute together. Seriously why let this talented man go.” Another viewer added that Jack functioned as “an anti-hero more than a villain” with “many layers,” criticizing the creative direction of the series. Beyond frustration over the cast decision itself, fans were equally bewildered by how the plot point was leaked. One dedicated viewer questioned the situation, asking, “1) Why is this being spoiled? 2) Why is this happening in the first place? Bad on both counts.” Another went a step further, arguing, “Why would this be spoiled now? It almost feels like GH is tanking itself.” Between the roster changes and premature leaks, dedicated viewers are left questioning the decisions currently driving the show.
One thing is crystal clear, California soap fans are clearly fed up with sudden character exits and early storyline spoilers. If General Hospital wants to keep its audience invested, maybe they should keep some fan favorites around.
