Prince William and Kate Middleton’s greatest joy is their children. The couple is parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Their eldest son George will one day be the future king, a role the couple is prepping him for. As for the future of their youngest children, the pair isn’t putting pressure on them to be working royals.
It’ll be a long time before Prince George takes the throne, but his future is set in stone. As for his siblings, many people assume they will become working royals. However, that might not be the case.
According to The Daily Beast, a former Kensington Palace staffer says that William and Kate prefer their youngest children follow a different path.
The working assumption is that the younger two children will get on and do their own thing. They will be encouraged not to become working royals.
Although Charlotte and Louis often accompany George and their parents to public events; the source reveals there’s a reason behind it.
The option isn’t there for George, of course, but the children have been kept at arm’s length from royal life. They are exposed to the minimum possible publicity, and that is a deliberate strategy to let Charlotte and Louis choose their own destiny.
Another source told the news outlet that the Prince Harry situation is another reason for the couple’s decision.
It is no secret that William has been devastated by the destruction of his relationship with Harry. Although he absolutely put the blame on Meghan [Markle] and Harry, he does of course, also appreciate that the whole system, where one of your kids is less important than the other due to an accident of birth, had a massive part to play in what happened and how it happened.
The term spare is used throughout the monarchy for a second child. In case something happened to the firstborn, the heir, then the spare would replace them in succession to the throne.
Prince Harry has been open about how he felt playing second fiddle to his older brother. The different treatment between the two is one of the reasons for their rift. William doesn’t want history repeating itself with his children.
He and Catherine adore the children, and their whole lives are about the children. I think they want to find a practical solution to the ‘spare’ problem that has bedeviled the family for generations.
Based on the interactions seen during royal events, it seems the kids have a close relationship. As with any parent, it’s understandable William and Kate don’t want anything coming between the siblings. The couple is doing things their own way to make sure their children are happy and treated equally. When the time comes for Charlotte and Louis to choose their own path, their parents will support them no matter what.
