The Universal movie musical adaptation of Wicked Part 1 changed its release date. The film will star Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and more. Wicked Part 1’s original release date was December 25, 2024, now it’s November 27, 2024. It will be able to take advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and won’t have to compete with the third Avatar film. Jon M. Chu is directing the Universal movie musical adaptation. The film is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire. Wicked is adapted from the stage production written by Winne Holzman and the composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The story takes place before the events of The Wizard of Oz, which is based on the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Marc Platt is producing the film through his Universal-based Marc Platt Productions.
Jonathan Bailey and Cynthia Erivo are Just Some of the Big Names in “Wicked” Part 1
The Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh is starring in the movie musical. Like the play, the film will explore how Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) becomes the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda (Ariana Grande) becomes the Good Witch. The Universal movie musical adaptation also stars Bowen Yang, Jeff Goldblum, and many more. Ariana Grande most definitely has the vocals for the role, but critics are waiting to see if she has the acting chops for it. Both Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum are veteran actors with the accolades to show for it, but fans will have to wait and see if their singing is up to par. Jonathan Bailey is an experienced screen and stage actor and has musical experience as well. Since the release date was altered for Wicked Part 1, people can see it sooner.
