Drivers on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma City were left stunned when they saw something that looked like it belonged in a Hollywood blockbuster: a jail transport van racing down the highway with a shirtless inmate dangling from a shattered rear window, flailing in the wind.
The unbelievable scene, captured on multiple cell phones, has since gone viral, raising questions about prison security, officer negligence, and how close one man came to a deadly fall.
Chaos on the Highway
Eyewitnesses said the van was weaving through traffic when the prisoner suddenly appeared, his torso jutting out into the air, his hands clawing for something to hold on to. Some drivers honked in shock, while others pulled out their phones to capture the scene.
Tiggin Martin, who posted one of the most-viewed clips, told reporters:
“I saw him hanging out; it looked like he might fall off. People were screaming from their cars. It didn’t look safe for anybody.”
The Department of Corrections later released a short statement, calling the event “routine transport” gone wrong. But critics aren’t buying it. The shattered glass and prisoner’s visible struggle suggested a breakdown in protocol. Why wasn’t the van stopped immediately? How did the man manage to smash the rear window?

Civil rights advocates slammed the Department of Corrections, saying the man’s life was recklessly endangered. “That’s not protocol, that’s neglect,” one viral tweet declared. On the other side, critics of the prisoner called him reckless, claiming his actions endangered everyone else on the road.
