To the surprise of many, 2024 is the year of Fallout. After the successful live-action series premiered, everyone returned to the Commonwealth and Appalachia to live their own post-apocalyptic adventure. While the former got a new update in the form of a next-gen update, many Vault Dwellers wonder if Fallout 76 will also get a patch for modern platforms. While this live service installment had a rough launch, it is a perfect time to jump into it, and a better visual style could do wonders for the game.
Fallout 76 Next Gen Update, Explained
In short, Fallout 76 doesn’t have a native next-gen patch, but it did get a 60fps update with 4K support in June 2023. While players can enjoy a smooth experience in PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it isn’t the same thing as what Fallout 4 is getting, which is turning the game into a native next-gen version. Still, Fallout 76 looks terrific if you’re playing on Sony and Microsoft’s latest consoles.
It is also worth mentioning that, at the time of writing, there is no confirmation of a proper patch arriving in Fallout 76. However, with the success of the show and the number of people playing both games at the moment, we could expect Bethesda to show Appalachia a bit of love in the future. Yet, we’re just speculating because the developers haven’t mentioned anything.
On the other hand, playing Fallout 76, even without a next-gen update, is recommended. You see, this post-apocalyptic title has come a long way since its rocky launch. From the addition of NPCs to the introduction of several pieces of endgame content, such as Expeditions, there’s a lot to love in Fallout 76. Recently, we explored Atlantic City, and the next major update is in June 2024. While we’d love to see a modern coat of pain for this game, it isn’t a bad time to jump in. You can enjoy the story alone and do co-op on the side if that’s your thing. While the RPG elements aren’t as deep as Fallout 4, it is a Fallout experience through and through, and one worth experiencing at least once.
