Over the past few months, we have seen more and more Marvel Cinematic Universe series and movie delays. Of course, before, it was for reasons like the COVID-19 pandemic, but now franchise content has been postponed for other reasons. Kevin Feige has also confirmed that Marvel Studios will have fewer project releases through Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU. To give a bit of an example, the What If? season 2 went from releasing “early 2023” to now saying “coming soon.” Iron Heart was going to release in 2023 but got moved to sometime in 2024.
How Could These Delays Impact The Marvel Franchise?
Something that many are wondering is how this will benefit the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the overall Marvel Studio franchise. With dates being pushed back for upcoming shows and films, it can sometimes be alarming, but it shouldn’t be. Just as a video game that gets delayed, it can be just to make sure it is prepared to be released and viewed by the public. Although, it has been discussed often how the MCU put out what was considered “way too many” Disney+ series last year.
Marvel Studios brought us Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk all within a very short opening window, and the producers don’t seem to want to do that again this year. However, with the movies, it seems to be a different story, they didn’t release many movies last year to trigger a holt in those, but it does seem the studio wants to take more time with their movies.
Overall, it is noticeable how the direction of the movies and shows has changed over time, and maybe the franchise wants to get back to its roots and is taking some extra time with its content to prepare it for that. There is no easy way to tell, but Marvel Studios has many upcoming projects for its fans in the next couple of years.
