Ron Howard gave a positive update concerning the Willow series in the works for the streaming service Disney+. In an interview on Andy Cohen’s Sirius XM show, Radio Andy, Howard said the series is actively in development, and things are looking good.
Howard was quick to comment on the progress behind the Willow sequel series:
I was in a two-hour story meeting last night… The writer, Jon Kasdan is leading the charge. They have a great group of writers and it’s in very active development. The scripts are going great. So, they have to get through the season and the budget. And so forth, there’s no green light there yet, but I’m very optimistic about it. I love his take on it.
Rumors began a few months back that a Willow series might be in development, and Howard was quick to confirm them. The series will be a sequel, picking up where the original film left off, instead of rebooting the source material. As far as casting goes, Warwick Davis will be returning to reprise his role as Willow. While there has been no official word from Val Kilmer, rumors are swirling about his involvement as well.
Willow originally released in 1988 to mixed reviews, but quickly became somewhat of a cult classic. This 80’s epic fantasy tale tells the story of Willow, a simple farmer tasked with a big quest. With a magician and a mercenary at his side, he must protect a new-born child from a power-hungry queen set on total domination. The film is currently available on Disney+.
