Baltimore locals are used to seeing the unusual and sometimes the inspiring. The wire creations of Maryland artist Reed Bmore are a bit of both. One such artwork, a wire sculpture of a woman sitting in a swing, hangs from the stoplights on Russell St. The artwork took one Baltimore local by surprise, and earlier this week, they turned to Reddit for answers. People in the comments were quick to shout out the artist behind the unexpected pieces. Not only is Reed Bmore known among Baltimore locals, but the artist is also clearly admired. Given the beauty and ingenuity of the pieces, it’s no wonder.

Wire art is a quieter kind of spectacle than feats of athleticism but no less impressive. Reed Bmore, the artist once referred to as the “Banksy of Baltimore” has putting up street art for years. Though it may only be now that some locals notice, Bmore’s wire frame hangings have quietly held space in the city for years. Bmore’s pieces are often spotted and removed by authorities. To the delight of Baltimore’s fans, that hasn’t stopped new wire art from appearing in Baltimore.

A Reddit post by u/jalapenocheezit about the wire art received many comments supportive of the Baltimore artist’s efforts. “He’s a nice guy,” said one commenter of Bmore. “I think that the new(ish) sculpture in front of Lexington market was designed by Reed.” Another commenter voiced concern for the artist’s safety, saying, “These are tres cool! I hope the artists stay safe. Looks dangerous.” Yet another praised the art’s presence in the city, saying,

One of my favorite parts of living in Baltimore 😍

Though street art has its detractors, it does a lot to liven things up. Modern cities can sometimes be dull and monotonous. An unexpected wire sculpture here and there disrupts all that sameness. It might not be how some people imagine beautifying a city, but there sure are many in Maryland who disagree.
