While ignorance might be bliss in some instances, in one Wisconsin employee’s case regarding his boss, it certainly would have been. Going by Captain Wisconsin on Reddit, the worker shared a screenshot from his job’s Team chat on r/mildlyinfuriating. The title of the post says it all: the boss is currently on vacation, and she feels as though her subordinates really need to know how much fun she’s having. According to Captain Wisconsin, over half of her team can’t even afford a vacation.
Captain Wisconsin clarifies his stance in the comment section, saying that he does not care about her income and isn’t shaming her about how she chooses to spend it, which is on traveling, in this case. On the other hand, “It’s tone-deaf and weird to share personal vacation updates with your employees (en masse) without solicitation,” he wrote. “And inappropriate to do so in a work chat,” he added in conclusion.
Reddit Was in Agreement: This Wisconsin Employer Lacks Empathy For Her Employees
Thousands of Redditors sided with the employee. After all, unless you’re personally close to your boss at work, there’s little reason why anyone would want to follow how someone they’re under is faring on their vacation whilst they’re still at work. “Unless she has some form of cognitive impairment, this was definitely intentionally antagonizing. Middle manager type stuff,” coldly remarked a commenter.
“Hit her with ‘company vacation when?!’ lol” suggested a second. A third Redditor pointed out: “Research has shown rich people are less empathetic, compassionate, and generous than people without high incomes!” “She doesn’t have any friends to share her excitement with so she’s forcing on the people who have to pay attention to her,” presumed a fourth.
Countless other Reddit users chimed in on Captain Wisconsin’s post with their own story, many sharing how their very well-off bosses were incredibly disconnected in how they interacted with their teams.
While OP didn’t respond to anyone in the comments, their post and single remark say enough about how they feel. It’s like how one commenter put it properly: “Who the heck is emailing their subordinates while on vacation? Clearly your boss has poor boundaries.”
