Following the reveal of Twilight Princess HD for Wii U, Nintendo also unveiled a splendid new Wolf Link Amiibo to be paired with the game. The figure obviously features Link in his wolf form and Midna in her imp form riding on his back. The Amiibo is to be included with the special bundle edition of TPHD, and it was thought for a time that the miniature lupine might be an exclusive bonus. As it turns out, that is not the case.
Nintendo’s product certificate site is now listing the Wolf Link Amiibo as being a separate product from the game’s bundle. This isn’t surprising when one stops to consider that nearly all the Amiibo statues have been released as standalone at some point. Even the silver and gold Mario Amiibos have been released, at higher prices. The one exception to this rule is the green Squid Amiibo for Splatoon. The figure technically is available by itself, but only in Japan. European and North American gamers had to purchase the Splatoon 3-Amiibo pack in order to score the sea creature without resorting to importing it for over twice the price.
Now that gamers know they won’t be forced to opt for the bundle unless they want to, let’s hope Nintendo doles out the information on exactly what the darn thing does. Supposedly one of its functions is to transfer data from Twilight Princess HD to the new Zelda Wii U game. Keep your eyes and ears peeled, and your noses raised to the wind, for future Zelda news.
