A chilling video is gaining attention on Reddit showing a woman dragging around an elderly, vulnerable man. The clip takes place in the UK in November, when it’s usually very cold. Most alarmingly, the poor man is dressed only in a t-shirt.
The lady recording the horrid scene protests to the woman that “you can’t take a gentleman out like this.” The recorder points out that the woman leading the man around is “supposed to be a carer.” In reality, she seems to be doing anything other than care for the poor man. If the woman videoed is indeed a carer, it’s shocking to see her almost dragging the vulnerable man around in such a fashion.
It’s not just the fact the man is only wearing a t-shirt in what is typically a very cold month in the UK. The woman drags the vulnerable man through the streets at a pace that’s clearly too fast for him. As one Redditor comments, the “poor guy could barely keep up.” Many have expressed a similar sentiment, deeply upset by the woman’s callous actions. “Breaks my f****** heart man,” said one.
At the end of the clip, the “carer” drags the vulnerable man into a jewelry store. She tries to claim that the lady videoing her is “harassing” her, saying she’s following and recording her. The “carer” then says she could call the police, to which the lady capturing the behavior retorts, “Please do”.
What’s particularly notable is how the poor vulnerable man reacts to his “carer”. In the jewelry store, he seems to be trying to free himself from the woman’s grip. When the supposed carer momentarily releases his hand, he immediately starts to walk away. As one commenter put it, “he doesn’t seem to care for her much considering how quickly he wrangled out of her grip and walked away at the end.”
Of course, it’s hard to know the man’s condition from just a single clip, but even those with major learning difficulties know when they’re experiencing something they don’t like. Although the man doesn’t visibly protest when he’s being dragged around, he definitely shows an intent to get away at the end of the clip.
We don’t have much context to the clip, but there’s something definitely very wrong. However “difficult” the vulnerable man should be, treating him like an animal is disgusting behavior. We can only hope the alleged “carer” is formally sanctioned for this.
