It never ceases to amaze me how many people are willing to go out of their way to make others uncomfortable. At least once a day, I’ll see a video of a woman being approached by someone while she’s doing something by herself. Some men think a woman by herself, minding her own business, is an invitation to initiate a conversation. One woman captured her version of a man who harassed her and then posted it to TikTok and Reddit.
The video, posted by Notimetoexplainsorry, depicts a woman enjoying a burrito by herself in New Zealand. Suddenly, a man approaches off-camera and asks her several questions. Despite obviously not being interested in the man’s words, he continues to prod, asking if she’d like to feed some nearby fish with her burrito. It takes a few more times for her to reject his advances for him to give up.
Instead of walking away, he tries to continue bothering her by asking for a handshake. It’s never made sense to me when a person can’t take a hint. It’s made even less sense to me when I’m approached in public while obviously doing something by myself. Commenters were quick to ridicule the man for his choice of words concerning what else she should be doing with her day.
“”You could be enjoying something else right now, you know what I’m saying?” Damn sometimes I’m glad I’m not a woman. That dude is disgusting.”
Others were shocked by how often this happens in an average woman’s life. Many of the comments are just women sharing a similar experience where they’ve had to endure being harassed at least once in their lives.
“The fact women have to navigate advances and threats like this on the daily is really disgusting.”
Hopefully, this doesn’t happen to this woman again, and the man got the hint that she didn’t want to talk to him. The video ends without knowing what happens next, though it’s safe to say that he probably continued trying to talk to her.
