A woman, Laura, shares her terrifying experience hearing flood alarms go off at midnight while staying at a cabin in Lake Lure, North Carolina. She describes this as one of the scariest moments of her life and posted the video on her TikTok channel @lauralearnstohike. Her video quickly caught fire online with 27 million views, 2.9 million likes, and over 24,000 comments.
The video captures the moment when an emergency alert goes off, warning, “Be prepared to move to higher ground.” The sound echoes through the woods, sparking instant panic for Laura and her family. As she tries to understand what is happening, a loud siren blares. The alert continued, “Emergency management has issued a flood watch for your area.” It asks that they be ready to move to higher ground if the situation arises.
Laura explains that, “After Hurricane Helene devastated this area 2 years ago, I was completely freaked out.” The flood threat came as the remnants of Hurricane Isaias brought heavy rain to the area. Laura said the storm brought more than seven inches of rain, although rainfall totals varied across the region. She claims that this caused them to release water from the dam. Thankfully, Laura and her family were able to leave the next day safely without incident. However, she describes the moment as surreal and says that her heart was racing. She says, “It sounded like an apocalypse.”
Thousands React To North Carolina Video
Laura isn’t the only one who found the moment to be apocalyptic, as thousands have commented a similar reaction. One commenter states, “What?!? This sounds like an alien disaster movie!!!” Meanwhile, others feel like they were transported to a horror movie. One person says, “I would’ve thought the purge was going down.” Another shares a similar experience with a tornado alert, explaining, “The speaker was on a huge pole next door, and I thought Jesus had returned.”
Meanwhile, others comment that this would have freaked them out to hear in the middle of the night. One says, “This would send me into psychosis.” Another adds, “I would lowk have a stroke if I heard that outside at night.” One person has a cheekier response: “I’m moving to higher ground, alright. Bc I’m passing away and going to the light if I hear that sht at night.”
Normally, Laura posts videos of travel through Tennessee and Georgia, but her recent video is a departure from the peaceful nature content.
