Wonder Woman 3 has been canceled due to the DCEU reboot from Warner Bros. Discovery. According to Variety, Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins submitted an idea for a third Wonder Woman movie to DC Studios’ chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, Jenkins was reportedly informed that her idea didn’t mesh with their developing plans for the DC Universe. For that reason, Wonder Woman 3 plans are reportedly being canceled and not moving forward. This is despite the outrageous success of the first Wonder Woman movie, which is the second-highest-rated project in the DCEU. This new development suggests the possibility that the DCEU storyline created by Zack Snyder may end in 2023.
‘Wonder Woman 3’ Cancellation May Equal a DCEU Reboot
The future of the DCEU has been uncertain since the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery. Since the merger took place, a DC Entertainment overhaul has been expected. We’ve seen projects such as The Wonder Twins movie and Batgirl get axed by Warner Bros. before they even got off the ground. Now it looks like Wonder Woman 3 will be the latest DCEU project to be scrapped by the DCEU reboot.
While Wonder Woman 3’s cancellation may disappoint many DC fans, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. The DCEU is considered a failure in many ways. While Wonder Woman was a big success, Wonder Woman: 1984 is considered a disaster. With anticipated projects like Batgirl and the controversy surrounding Flash actor Ezra Miller taking center stage, the DCEU has been fighting an uphill battle to win people over. It appears Wonder Woman 3 is the latest film to suffer due to the DCEU’s failures. It appears that not even Henry Cavill’s Superman return can save the day for the DCEU.
