San Diego Comic Con was this past week and there was a lot of exciting news and announcements, obviously. Fans of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman were excited to hear that the film would indeed receive a sequel. While that was the only information released regarding it at SDCC, fans didn’t have to wait long for more. Last night, the release date for the sequel was confirmed for December 13th, 2019.

Gal Gadot will return to play the bad ass Amazonian warrior, Diana, but talks with Patty Jenkins are still ongoing at this moment in time. The film is, by far, one of, if not the, most popular stand alone film in the DC Universe and made over $700 million at the box office. If Jenkins does return to direct the next film, she has expressed interest in doing another period piece. Wonder Woman takes place around World War I, and it would be interesting to see where Jenkins would place her next.

Wonder Woman

2019 does seem like a long time to wait, but lucky enough, we can see more of Wonder Woman in the Justice League, releasing November 27, 2017. DC and Warner Brothers have plenty to keep fans busy in the meantime though. They have quite a few films in the works: Cyborg, Suicide Squad 2, Flashpoint, Batgirl, Aquaman, Gotham City Sirens, Shazam, Green Lantern Corp, The Batman, and, of course, the Wonder Woman sequel. As DC tries its hardest to compete with Marvel’s cinematic universe, all we can hope for is that the rest of their stand alone lmovies are as good as Wonder Woman.

Which of the DCU films coming up are you looking forward to the most? Do you think that they still have a chance? Let us know in the comments below! For all of your Batman, Wonder Woman, and everything DC news, make sure to stick to The Nerd Stash!
