World of Warcraft is once again giving away rare and retired items via Twitch Drops to celebrate the release of Patch 10.1 – Embers of Neltharion. Starting May 2, players can watch eligible Twitch streamers to earn both the Ethereal Portal toy and the Blazing Hippogryph mount as WoW Twitch Drops. Want to know exactly what you have to do to snatch these goodies up for yourself? We have you covered.
Ethereal Portal and Blazing Hippogryph WoW Twitch Drops
The Ethereal Portal toy functions as a flashy hearthstone. It opens up a portal while you channel the spell to return to your home location. You can earn this toy by watching eligible streamers from May 2 at 10:00 AM PT until May 9 at 9:59 AM PT.
The Blazing Hippogryph is an old mount from the TCG that is essentially a hippogryph on fire. It can be earned as a World of Warcraft Twitch Drop in the same way as the Ethereal Portal. However, its time frame lasts from May 9th at 10:00 AM PT to May 17th at 10:00 AM PT.
Giving away retired TCG mounts has been a controversial subject for WoW fans. The World of Warcraft Trading Card Game ended quite some time ago. Players used to be able to discover rare cards that came with scratch codes for rewards in the MMO. These goodies can be sold on the Auction House, and a lot of players have taken to the internet to purchase them for a high price because they are hard to obtain.
Back in December, Blizzard offered a similar TCG mount, the Feldrake, via a Twitch Drop. Some fans didn’t appreciate their rare and expensive mount becoming a common sight overnight. This hasn’t let the company stop them, however, and the Ethereal Portal and Blazing Hippogryph are now the latest items in this growing list.
