Country music singer Wynonna Judd has called her return to the CMT Awards “bittersweet.” One year after her mother’s passing, Wynonna’s return to the CMT Awards was beyond emotional. Wynonna Judd’s CMT Awards performance proves that the singer still grieves her late mother, Naomi Judd.
Wynonna’s Return To CMT Awards Is “Bittersweet”
Wynonna Judd calls her return to the CMT Awards “Bittersweet.” The country singer revealed this in a chat with ET, where she also seized the opportunity to advocate for people struggling with mental health.
“I’m going to use my time to talk to anyone out there who is struggling,” Wynonna told the ET correspondent. “It’s an opportunity to help somebody,” she added.
Returning to the award show was particularly emotional for the singer as she and her late mother, Naomi Judd, had delivered a performance at last year’s CMTs.
The performance, which was their first in two decades, turned out to be that mother and daughter duo’s final one, as the veteran country singer passed on a few weeks later.
With her granddaughter turning one later in the month, Wynonna described this period of her life as a mix of agony and ecstasy. “It’s a bittersweet time,” she said, baring her emotions to publication.
Wynonna Judd’s CMT Awards Performance
Regardless of the mixed emotions of being at the awards that marked the first anniversary of her mother’s passing, the country singer pulled off an electrifying performance at the awards.
Per ET, the singer gave a special shout-out to her late mother during her I Want To Know What Love Is joint performance with Ashley McBryde. Wynonna pointed to the sky and said, “Mama, you need to be here.”
Although Wynonna and Naomi Judd will never get to perform again, the mother-and-daughter duo left a lasting mark on the country music genre. Wynonna’s grief is understandable, as she lost a parent and a music partner in one.
