Wyoming Angry As 2,000 Acre Gun Range Begins Construction: ‘Waste of Taxpayer Dollars’

Aren’t there other priorities?

We all know that certain construction projects will always draw attention, especially if they affect a city. However, there are a few others that raise eyebrows, and not for the right reasons. An example of this is a construction project in Wyoming, which many might already know as the “2,000-acre shooting range.” While many opposed it and thought it would be unnecessary in the state, it seems the project has gotten more than a green light, as construction has officially begun, and several Wyoming residents are not too excited about it.

The report comes from Cowboy State Daily, which confirmed that the 2,000-acre shooting range project had begun construction. This weekend, both Governor Gordon and Senator Barrasso fired the first shots to commemorate the moment and clear the way for the project.

While this should be good for the state, many citizens are unhappy with the huge project that will take place in Park County. According to many, this is using taxpayer money in ways that do not seem like a priority. Naturally, since construction has already started, several citizens have started voicing their concerns.

Locals React to the $20 Million Massive Shooting Range Project

As many of you already know, the construction of the shooting range in Wyoming will cost around $20 million, which is quite a large sum. With this in mind, several Redditors shared their thoughts, believing this money could be used for something more helpful to the state.

“Waste of taxpayer dollars. It should have been privately financed.”

“This money would equal 25 teachers’ salaries, taxes, and benefits for 10 years. Backward priorities for sure.“

A few other Redditors believe the site isn’t ideal, and, when it comes to building one of the largest shooting ranges in the West, some think a different location would’ve worked better.

“I still laugh that they went through the whole process and decided Cody was the best spot for it.“

And while several more complaints are pouring in from all over, others believe there’s little they can do about it, since the project is already underway. On the other hand, some Redditors, especially those living in Wyoming, think this could be a good way to draw more people to the state, as well as provide a closer shooting range for aficionados to visit from time to time.
