X-Men ’97 #1 is still a few weeks away, but Marvel is ramping up excitement with a new variant reveal. For the debut issue of the prequel series, Russell Dauterman has crafted a gorgeous wraparound variant cover. This new cover shows off the team that will star in the upcoming Disney+ series. While it brings back the main team from the 90’s cartoon, it also adds the time-hopping mutant Bishop to the roster. This variant gives fans a great look at how Marvel has updated the iconic 90’s X-men for the upcoming revival.

The upcoming Disney+ animated series, X-Men ’97, will serve as a continuation of the X-Men Animated Series from the early 90’s. That cartoon followed Charles Xavier and his team of gifted youngsters as they fought against mutant prejudice and saved the world. The original roster is returning for this updated show. It includes Wolverine, Rogue, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Gambit, Storm, and Jubilee. It is also bringing Bishop along for the ride.

Dauterman’s wraparound variant adorns the animated series’ prequel comics. This limited series, also called X-Men ’97, will catch readers up with what their favorite X-Men have been up to since they last saw them. It is being produced in collaboration with the team behind the Disney+ series. It promises to bring back all the mutant drama and surprises that the 90’s cartoon offered.

Russell Dauterman’s variant wraparound will be available on all the issues of the prequel comics. It is an updated version of an X-Men art piece that Dauterman crafted years ago. In fact, it was the fan piece that Dauterman made years ago that got him a gig at Marvel. Of course, the piece has been completely revamped to better fit the updated character art for the Disney+ series.

Marvel’s X-Men ’97 #1 hits shelves on 03/27. The Disney+ animated series will debut later this year.
