A new series set for next year, X-Men: Forever, promises to reveal the final mysteries of the Krakoan Era. Marvel announced the series during this week’s Lucca Comics & Games festival. Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics, C.B. Cebulski, revealed that the four-issue series comes from writer Kieron Gillen and artist Luca Maresca. It will pick up on several plots from Immortal X-Men and unravel the last secrets of Krakoa. As these mysteries are resolved, the limited series also sets the stage for whatever is next for the X-Men.
X-Men: Forever
The X-Men: Forever spinoff will answer questions that have long-bugged fans of the X-Men. While Cebulski didn’t reveal all that awaits in Gillen and Maresca’s pages, he did share some tidbits. The miniseries follows the same plot threads introduced in Immortal X-Men. This includes the quest for Dominion and the internal issues that plague the Quiet Council. It will also explore the escape from the White Hot Room and the divine intervention of the Phoenix. Speaking of the Phoenix, it seems to play a major role in this series as they adorn the cover for the first issue.
The official description of X-Men: Forever declares it the “Haunted House of X.” It asks how you can kill a digital god and what to do when the Phoenix is bleeding into nothing. Most of all, it promises answers to those questions that keep you up at night. However, they may not be the answer you expect.
The End And New Beginnings
Of course, X-Men: Forever is a companion to next year’s Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X. These two series bring the Krakoan Age of mutants to a close. Currently, all of mutantkind is fighting against the anti-mutant organization of Orchis. After a deadly attack, most mutants are scattered and in hiding. With a final battle on the horizon, perhaps X-Men: Forever will finally shine a light on how the X-Men et al. can survive this. Because right now, it is not looking too good.
X-Men: Forever #1 goes on sale 3/20.
