Ben Urich, reporter and co-owner of the Daily Bugle, broke a story in X-Men #12 revealing a secret that can have lasting ramifications on Cyclops and for the entire Marvel Universe. Written by Gerry Duggan and illustrated by Pepe Larraz, Cyclops and Synch chase down an ORCHIS member called Dr. Stasis. Previously, Dr. Stasis used the corpse of Cyclops to crack the secret that mutants had achieved the true ability of resurrection. The master geneticist passed this information along to Ben Urich, but it was wiped from his memory. Now, in issue 12, Urich’s memories are restored, and he receives permission to run with the story. However, this can compromise Cyclops’ position with his team.
What Will The Lasting Ramifications Be For The X-Men?
Mutantkind now lives on the island nation of Krakoa and operates under the leadership of the Quiet Council. The politics for mutants has become messy. However, since Cyclops shared the secret information with Ben Urich and permitted him to print the story, he fears that his position on the X-Men is not long for the world. In the midst of a mission later in the issue, Cyclops speaks with his team about the Quiet Council and says:
Well, the Quiet Council will be furious, but I hope our people will take a breath, and upon reflection, say… Cyclops was right.
He’s a hopeful leader. Beyond Scott’s fear, the issue also follows Mr. Stasis, now revealed to be a potential clone of fan-favorite Mr. Sinister, as he meets up with another ORCHIS member: M.O.D.O.K. On Gameworld, Marvel Girl, Rogue, Wolverine, and Polaris take down Cordyceps Jones. They free hundreds of citizens and remove Cordyceps as a threat to Earth. Gerry Duggan truly pens a compelling issue that does a fabulous job at keeping fans invested. Pepe Larraz’s art is magnificent and complements Duggan’s story nicely.
Next up is the real threat: The Hellfire Gala…
