Yacht Club is, of course, the developer behind the indie blockbuster Shovel Knight, the acclaimed 2D platformer that debuted back in 2014 which swiftly became a beloved classic as well as a poster-child for how to run a successful and well-managed Kickstarter project. Shovel Knight is the now-classic story of the eponymous Shovel Knight embarking on a quest to save his lady love and partner in battle Shield Knight, as he does battle with the evil Enchantress and her knights of the Order of No Quarter. The game has been re-branded since it’s original release after receiving several major expansions, and nowadays goes by the title Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, which is set to have its final modes added in one final expansion coming hopefully sometime this year.
The studio has also branched out slightly into the realm of publishing and helped to publish the physical edition of Inti Creates’ Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack on 3DS. The team will also be distributing the game Cyber Shadow developed by Mechanical Head Studios. It will be fascinating to learn whether or not the company plans to immediately start in a new project after the completion of Shovel Knight: Treasure TroveI, or if they plan to take a rest from development for a while and merely focus on publishing games for some time. Yacht Club has been working exclusively on Shovel Knight for close to five years, and seeing where the studio is going to go next after such a long-lasting success, not to mention after commonly being associated with just one game, is going to be very interesting indeed.
Yacht Club Games will reveal further details regarding their plans for the future on Wednesday, August 28th.
